In mid-1992, Nas was approached by MC Serch of third Bass, who grew to become his supervisor and secured Nas a document deal with Columbia Records throughout the same year. Halfway by the manufacturing of the album, Cormega was fired from the group by Steve Stoute, who had unsuccessfully tried to drive Cormega to sign a deal with his administration company. Within minutes of the broadcast, Combs and his bodyguards allegedly made their approach into Steve Stoute's workplace and assaulted him, at one point apparently hitting Stoute over the top with a champagne bottle. Stoute pressed expenses, however he and Combs settled out-of-court docket that June. The video featured Nas and Combs being crucified in a manner similar to Jesus Christ; after the video was completed, Combs requested his crucifixion scene be edited out of the video. Once they were not in the recording studio, Nas would go into the booth and report his personal material.
