The game is essentially one giant fetch quest, and it's often very monotonous and boring. However, as Death Stranding players work together to build structures and the like, the deliveries become quicker, the landscapes become easier to traverse, and sometimes the game can be relaxing in a Journey or Flower sort of way. The work may be tedious, but there is something oddly addicting about delivering packages to NPCs.
